Phase one of the St.Thomas Elevated Part Project is to purchase , protect and plan for the future of the MCR bridge. The vision for that future is to create a new and unique elevated park for St. Thomas which will be a first for Canada . That vision will grow with community input and, eventually, an international design competition. Your ideas will help give the project life, inspiration and momentum. Imagine the trestle transformed into an outstanding place for recreation and fitness for residents and tourists – let us know what you see.

This is the place to let us know your positive "elevated" ideas. Click on the comment area below and share your vision for the St. Thomas Elevated Park.

I think the Elevated Park Project is a great idea. I hope you will consider having a timber frame element within the design. The Timber Framers' Guild has been involved in many community projects, including the covered bridges in Guelph and Golden, BC. You can see some projects on their website.

There are local timber frame professionals in this area that may be willing to help, with or without involvement from the guild.

Finding a new use for the MCR bridge has been a personal dream of mine for some time. This Elevated Park Project is the best solution available. It preserves the bridge, gives everyone access to it and creates a unique visitor attraction that will draw attention to St. Thomas and Elgin. I'm proud to be involved with a group of community boosters who share this vision and are willing to invest the time, energy and money needed to make it happen. I hope city residents will show their support by attending the Sept. 5 town hall meeting. Together, we can make this happen and generate some much-needed community pride.
